Paul David Hewson, who is also known as Bono, is an Irish singer, musician, and the vocalist of the popular Irish rock band U2. The band's songs feature lyrics often with political, social, and religious premises. In U2's songs Bono provides messages that were often inspired from his own experience. Bono is one of the most successful songwriters in the history on the United Kingdom. But he became famous not only because of his talent as a musician - Bono is known worldwide for the actions he makes towards solving the major problems in some of the poorest countries in Africa. He is the co-founder of such organizations as DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign and Product Red, all of which in one form or another are actively assisting various nations to fight diseases and poverty. Together with U2, Bono organized and played a number of charity concerts. Some people praised his involvement, others criticized it. Time magazine named Bono Person of the Year and Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom granted the songwriter an honorary Knighthood. Besides, Bono is the only one who, besides Grammy, has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, Golden Globe and Academy Award. Bono has met a lot of politicians and gained their respect. He consistently made attempts to bring them closer to the idea of changing the world for better.
